The “nail house” incident has advanced civil liberties, but what exactly does that mean? It means that to promote civil liberties is in the right, and thus is now accepted to a certain degree by the government. The former struggle for people’s freedom ended without much of a result. However, when students take tests and athletes compete, they cannot always lose. If they always lose, their state of mind will be abnormal. The people need to score points, need to enter the game, need to win. The “nail house” victory is justice and inspiration for all those who fight for civil liberties. It has set an example and now everybody can walk this path.

We do not know the first year for civil liberties. In the past we also had movements for the public’s freedom, but they were all awful experiences and ended without any good results. Today is different. We can actually see the advancement of civil liberties. These events of 2007 are many and are related to the development of people’s basic rights. We are still in the middle of it, though, and so we have the tendency to not see so clearly. In the next ten years, civil liberties will be one of the main issues in Chinese affairs. The significance of this event is far-reaching.

Chinese officials at all levels a resource center for governance and election affairs and gives scholars worldwide the opportunity to study Chinese politics and offer reform measures”.
